Moon calendar

When the Moon is void of course.

Every void-of-course window from this month through the month after next, computed from the exact aspects between the Moon and the Sun through Pluto. Each row gives the last aspect that starts the void, the minute it begins, and the minute the Moon enters its next sign.

Right now

As of 7 September 2026 at 15:57 UTC: the Moon is void of course in Cancer, until it enters Leo at Mon 7 Sept · 16:49 UTC.

What void of course means

As the Moon crosses a sign it makes a run of exact aspects to the Sun and the planets. After the last of them there is nothing left to perfect before the sign ends, and the Moon is said to be void of course until it enters the next sign. The tradition reads that stretch as a pause: what is begun then is said to drift, while finishing, resting, and routine go on undisturbed. Whether that holds is for you to judge; the timing is exact either way.

How this calendar is computed

Each void starts at the last exact conjunction, sextile, square, trine, or opposition the Moon makes to the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto while in a sign, and ends at the Moon's ingress into the next sign. Both instants come from the same ephemeris that computes every chart on this site, checked against NASA JPL reference positions, and are found by bisection to well under a second. Astrologers who count only the Sun through Saturn get voids that begin earlier or at the same moment, never later. The nodes, asteroids, and chart angles are not counted, and the applying and separating minor aspects some calendars include are left out. Times are universal time; the browser converts them to your time zone. The method is described on the methodology page.

Reading the table

A void of a few minutes means the Moon perfected its last aspect just before changing sign; a void of a day and a half means the sign's aspects came early. Both are ordinary. The sign the Moon enters ends the void, and the moon phase and full moon calendar pages carry the rest of the month's lunar timing.

Questions, answered

What does void of course mean?

The Moon is void of course from its last exact major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. During that stretch it makes no further conjunction, sextile, square, trine, or opposition to the Sun or a planet. The tradition reads it as a pause: a poor moment to start something that needs to go somewhere, and a fair one for finishing, resting, or routine.

How long does the void-of-course Moon last?

Anything from a few minutes to about two days. The Moon changes sign roughly every two and a half days, so there are about thirteen voids a month, and their length depends on how early in the sign the last aspect fell. Most are shorter than a day; the table above gives each one to the minute.

Which planets and aspects count?

This calendar uses the five Ptolemaic aspects, conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition, between the Moon and the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Traditional astrologers stop at Saturn, which makes some voids start earlier and never later. Aspects to the nodes, asteroids, and angles are not counted.

What time zone are the times in?

The page is computed in universal time. With JavaScript on, every time in the table is shown in your own time zone as well, and the window in progress is marked. The instants themselves do not depend on where you are; only the clock reading does.

Is the void-of-course Moon bad?

It is a timing convention, not a verdict. The tradition treats a void Moon as unhelpful for launches, signings, and first meetings, and as harmless or even useful for wrapping up, sleeping, and routine work. Nothing here is a measurement of outcomes; the times are exact, the reading is the tradition's.
