# Deprecation policy

Understand public API stability, experimental exclusions and removal notice.

Engine 1.0.0: On npm.

## Public and private boundaries

The engine versioning policy defines the public exported entry points. Internal entry points are private implementation boundaries; consuming them does not create a stability promise.

Receipt schema identifiers have their own permanence rules. A package-version change does not authorize silently changing a schema identifier's meaning.

## Notice and removal

The policy provides at least twelve months' notice before removing a public API, followed by removal in a major version. A deprecated alias can remain available while its preferred replacement is documented.

Experimental features follow the exclusions in the versioning policy. Pin an exact release and read its changelog before an upgrade. The policy applies from 1.0.0, the first stable release on npm.
